David Nicholls’ You Are Here (Sceptre) has received the recognition of Best Book of the Year for 2024 from the Amazon Books editorial team, who also consider Amazon Charts data and customer reviews in their decision-making process.

Other nominees included Reckless by Lauren Roberts (Simon & Schuster Children’s UK), James by Percival Everett (Mantle), and All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker (Orion).

This romance novel, written by the author of One Day (Hodder & Stoughton), was released in April of this year and tells the story of two main characters on a long-distance walking journey. It also surpassed other contenders such as The God of the Woods by Liz Moore (The Borough Press) and non-fiction works like Emily English’s cookbook, So Good (Seven Dials).

“I’ve encountered so many magnificent books in 2024, and I feel great joy for You Are Here to be selected,” David Nicholls remarked. “A huge thank you to all the readers who have followed Michael and Marnie’s adventure this year.”

Jen Barrett from Amazon Books UK stated: “You Are Here captured all of our hearts this year. It is a lovely, gentle love story that refreshingly examines relationships in a way that mirrors real life. Nicholls is an exceptional creator of characters and touching slow-burn romance, which made it unsurprising that we were all so drawn to it. Writing from the perspectives of two protagonists can be challenging, but Nicholls handles it with such care and attention that readers become deeply invested in both characters and hope for their reunion.
